Andrew Mahar – honoured with AM

Infoxchange Australia Infocast June 2013

Congratulations to Andrew Mahar, honoured as a Member of the Order of Australia

Andrew Mahar, Founder and former Executive Director of Infoxchange, was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2013 Queen’s Birthday Honours. Andrew was recognised for his outstanding service to the community, including his innovative approach to strengthening communities using information communication technology as the primary tool to create positive social change.

Andrew established Infoxchange in 1988, and his work to achieve ‘Technology for social justice’ started with the development of an online crisis accommodation register to better assist the homeless and increase efficiencies within the housing sector. Andrew has been an advocate for digital inclusion, ensuring equal access to technology for all those in our communities irrespective of income, ability or disadvantage. Through Andrew’s work at Infoxchange thousands of public housing residents in inner city Melbourne received access to affordable online technology and were able to participate in the digital world.

Infoxchange congratulates Andrew on this honour, which recognises his commitment to social justice and his extensive contribution to the not-for-profit sector and the communities we seek to serve.
