WithOneSeed Education Week 2014

Education weekPlants, people and place
Dr Dan Murphy, a Ethno-botanist with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne, presented a workshop earlier this month on plant identification. His classroom was amongst the trees, in one of the few remaining remnant forests in the region of Baguia, Timor Leste.

Many of the 150 teachers and students who participated in the workshop, had walked many hours from surrounding villages to attend the WithOneSeed – Education Week activities.

In Melbourne, Dan works as a molecular systematist (systematic botanist) whose research primarily involves the use of molecular data (DNA sequencing) to investigate questions about the systematics, taxonomy, classification and biogeography of flowering plants.
